Abstract:
Today’s dynamic enterprises typically require a very diverse IT infrastructure consisting of a variety of hardware platforms, operating systems and applications to meet business goals and drive profitability.  Until recently, however, Microsoft was the one major vendor that did not natively offer a cross-platform management solution to address the breadth of customer needs for heterogeneous support.  With the recent release of System Center Operations Manager (OpsMgr) 2007 R2, Microsoft has taken its first major step towards proving end-to-end IT infrastructure management from a single interface.  But, how well does this solution stack-up against its competitors in this space, and what are Microsoft’s overall development goals in providing this functionality?  In the Advisory Note, Enterprise Management Associates takes a hard look at where Microsoft’s management solution fits in the broader enterprise IT management community and the effect and importance of its strategic alliances with partner vendors (such as Novell, Quest, Tripwire and BridgeWays) in providing a broad cross-platform management solution.
